SINGAPORE (Sept 28): Singapore stocks ended Wednesday slightly lower, drifting broadly sideways for most of the session as post-US presidential candidate debate excitement tapered off.

As at 5.04pm, the benchmark Straits Times Index closed 2.22 points or 0.08% lower at 2,858.01. In the broader market, 1.23 million shares valued at $693 million changed hands. Gainers outnumbered losers 198 to 148.

Noble Group was the most active with 257.2 million shares changing hands. This was followed by Ezra which saw 109.7 million shares traded. Alliance Mineral was third with nearly 59 million shares changing hands.
