SINGAPORE (July 12): Vard Holdings, the designer of offshore specialised vessels, has won an NOK 100 million ($15.9 million) engineering and electrical installation contract for a polar research vessel under construction for the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) of the UK.

The contract, won through subsidiary Vard Electro, was signed with Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders. This includes provision of engineering resources to support the shipyard during the designing process, installation of onboard electrical systems as well as the use of equipment developed by Vard Electro.

The 130m-long polar research vessel, which is expected to become operational in 2019, will be equipped with Vard’s SeaQ Communications system that allows remote management.
