SINGAPORE (Aug 24): Minister for Education (Schools) and Second Minister for Transport Ng Chee Meng (photo) on Thursday announced a new course in Airport Operations as part of ongoing efforts by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to drive manpower development in the aviation sector.

To be launched in April 2018, the new ITE Higher NITEC in Airport Operations programme will prepare students to work in airport ground handling, which is expected to see more job opportunities due to future airport development plans.

Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 is scheduled to open this year, and planning for Terminal 5 is underway. According to Singapore’s Air Transport Industry Transformation Map announced earlier this year, the aviation industry is looking to create some 8,000 jobs in the sector by 2025.
