SINGAPORE (Aug 24): The world’s third-largest airline by revenue appears to be eyeing an even bigger slice of the long-haul market pie, regardless of the bad rap it has been getting in recent months.

From Oct 27, American airline United Airlines will be taking a major step up in competition against Singapore’s flag carrier, Singapore Airlines (SIA), by introducing daily non-stop flights between Singapore’s Changi Airport (SIN) and the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Via Flight UA 38, the group’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will depart at 11am daily to arrive at LAX on the same day at 10.15am, while the return flight, UA 37, will depart LAX at 8.55pm daily to arrive in Singapore two days later at 6.50am – allowing passengers to save up to nearly two hours per journey on each way compared to the current united schedule via San Francisco.
