(Oct 2): In the past few weeks, there were many catastrophic events, ranging from the wildfires in Canada to the hurricanes in the Caribbean and the US. Close to home, we have the humanitarian crisis in Rakhine state in Myanmar, where hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas were displaced and made refugees.

My good friend Kalimullah Hassan and I, together with The Edge, launched an art sale event under the patronage of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah. Art collectors such as Kalimullah, Tan Sri Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah and I, together with various artists like Latiff Mohidin, Chang Fee Ming, Sharifah Fatimah Syed Zubir and Ahmad Zakii Anwar contributed works of art.

Within a week, we had raised funds well over the initial target of RM1 million ($321,961). We received strong support from many individuals and corporates, including Khazanah Nasional and the Sultan himself.
