SINGAPORE (June 25): Some 250,000 foreign workers, or 80% of the total dormitory population, would have been recovered or cleared through testing by end of the next month.
Testing for Covid-19 infection is now done at a rate of 10,000 daily.
As of June 23, around 120,000 workers have either recovered or have been tested to be free from the virus. Out of which, 80,000 are able to resume work while the remaining 40,000 are pending relocation to appropriate accommodations before they start work.
“We are controlling the infection in the community, and we are continuing to make progress to clear the migrant worker clusters and the dormitories, and allow the workers to resume work safely,” said Minister Lawrence Wong, chairman of the multi-ministry task force on Covid-19.
On June 25, the government announced an additional 112 cases of Covid-19. This number includes five cases in the community, of whom four are work pass holders, and one Singaporean.
The government is also expanding testing for Covid-19 on the wider populace.
Currently, individuals 45 years old and above who are diagnosed with acute respiratory infection will be tested.
Starting from July 1, all individuals 13-year-old and diagnosed as such will be tested when they see a doctor for the first time.
“As clinical and scientific evidence shows that an infected person is most infectious right before and immediately after the start of symptoms, doing so allows us to detect infected individuals early and to quickly contain further spread,” says the government
