UG Healthcare announced on Dec 1 that it will be conducting Covid-19 testing on its employees in its upstream manufacturing operations based in Malaysia.

The news comes after rival glove maker Top Glove reported that it will be closing some of its factories as over 2,000 of its workers tested positive for Covid-19 on Nov 23.

“We will be conducting Covid-19 testing on our employees as a precautionary measure to safeguard their health,” says UG Healthcare’s executive director and finance director Lee Jun Yih.

“The Covid-19 testing will have minimal disruption to our manufacturing operations as we continue to strive to ensure all our customers receive their required inventory of gloves. As such, we do not expect any material impact to our current financial year performance ending June 30, 2021,” Lee added.

Shares in UG Healthcare closed 1 cent lower or 1.4% down at 68 cents on Dec 1.
