Yuga Labs, the team behind Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) confirmed on June 4 that the latter was hacked, leading to non-fungible tokens (NFT) loss worth 200 ETH ($512,000).

One BAYC and two Mutant Apes tokens were stolen in the process, according to data from blockchain security firm PeckShield.

The most recent hack took place when Boris Vagner’s, Yuga Labs’ community and social manager’s Discord account was compromised — allowing the hacker to post phishing links in the official BAYC and Otherside’s Discord channels. Otherside is BAYC’s related metaverse project.

This is the third time an impersonation of a Yuga Labs-run account has occurred to steal users’ funds. The first incident was on April 1 when Mutant Ape Yacht Club #8662 was stolen through a phishing link posted in the project’s Discord, and the second happening on April 25 after both Bored Ape Yacht Club Instagram and Discord accounts posted a fake link to an Otherside minting, according to a report by CoinDesk.

Next, lawmakers in New York passed a bill on June 3 to ban certain bitcoin mining operations that run on carbon-based power sources, according to a report by CNBC.

If the bill passes, a proof-of-work mining company would not be allowed to expand or renew permits unless it uses 100% renewable energy while new entrants would not be allowed to come online for two years. This would also make New York the first state in the US to ban blockchain technology infrastructure.

Meanwhile, an NFT collection featuring artwork by Johnny Depp has seen a price surge after the actor won a defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard, according to a report by Decrypt.

The 3,900 "Never Fear Truth" NFTs have a floor price of 0.35 ETH at present.

Prior to the televised defamation trial, the collection had not seen much traction since March 11, when its floor price peaked at 1.64 ETH.

The "Never Fear Truth" collection of generative art on OpenSea is minted on Ethereum, featuring artwork by Depp.
