The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has announced the appointment of Chee Hong Tat, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, to its Board of Directors.
Chee’s appointment will be for a term of three years from June 1 this year to May 31, 2027.
In a May 2 statement, MAS also announced the reappointment of five existing members to the MAS Board.
Heng Swee Keat, Alvin Tan, Peter Ong, Deborah Ong and Ng Wai King will be reappointed as board members for a further term of three years till May 31, 2027.
Professor Tan Chorh Chuan will step down from his position as member of the MAS Board at the end of his current term on May 31. He was appointed to the MAS Board in June 2012.
Tan was President of the National University of Singapore (NUS) from 2008 to 2017. At MAS, Tan was a “key member” of the Board risk committee, says MAS.

Lawrence Wong, chairman of the MAS Board, says: “We deeply appreciate Professor Tan’s contributions to the MAS Board over the past 12 years. His clear thinking and ability to bring a systems view to complex problems was a tremendous asset for the MAS Board. He provided useful inputs that contributed to more robust decisions that enabled MAS to build stronger organisational capabilities in technology and risk management.”
With effect from June 1, MAS’s Board of Directors will consist of:
- Lawrence Wong, chairman of the Board; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance
- Gan Kim Yong, deputy chairman of the Board; Minister for Trade and Industry
- Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies
- Chee Hong Tat, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance
- Alvin Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth
- Peter Ong, chairman of risk committee; former head, civil service
- Lim Hng Kiang; special advisor, Ministry of Trade and Industry
- Chaly Mah, chairman of audit committee; chairman, NetLink NBN Management
- Lucien Wong, Attorney-General, Attorney-General’s Chambers
