Sinostar PEC Holdings has appointed Chen Seow Phun, John as lead independent director of its board as of June 1.
Chen was the Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology and Minister of State for National Development between 1999 to 2001.
He was also a Minister of State for Communications from 1997 to 1999, and served as a member of parliament from 1988 to 2006, while also serving as the assistant secretary general of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) from 1991 to 1997.
Chen is presently the deputy chairman, non-executive and independent director of Tat Seng Packaging Group, as well as executive chairman of Pavillon Holdings. He sits on the board of a number of public listed companies, including Hanwell Holdings, Fu Yu Corporation, OKP Holdings and Hong Lai Huat Group. He is also the Chairman of SAC Capital.
Chen has been a board member of the Economic Development Board, the Housing & Development Board, the Port of Singapore Authority and Singapore Power respectively. He taught at the National University of Singapore from 1983 to 1991.
He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
As at 3.04pm, shares in Sinostar PEC are up 4 cents or 12.1% higher at 37 cents.
