Jovi Ho, senior writer at The Edge Singapore, has been named Most Promising Journalist of the Year by the Securities Investors Association (Singapore).
This is The Edge Singapore’s second consecutive win in this category at SIAS’s annual Investors’ Choice Awards, which marked its 23rd edition this year.
Ho received his award at an Oct 7 event, with Alvin Tan, Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, as guest-of-honour. Also in attendance was former president Tony Tan, chief patron of SIAS.
In his award citation, SIAS says Ho has covered a wide range of stories at The Edge Singapore, ranging from banks’ earnings to energy security. “You are a well-rounded journalist with good writing skills and the EQ to deal with all kinds of newsmakers and their public relations gatekeepers,” said SIAS.
“I would like to thank my editors Chan Chao Peh, Goola Warden, Lee Pang Chuan and our team of copyeditors for their help. Thank you also to our CEO Bernard Tong and to my colleagues for their constant support,” says Ho.
Earlier that week, The Edge Singapore picked up two wins at the SGX Orb Awards. Ho’s story on Covid-19’s impact on the cinema business here — “Box office struggles” — won The Hidden Gem award, the paper’s third consecutive win in the category. Ho was also nominated for two other categories for the SGX Orb Awards.
Meanwhile, The Edge Singapore senior writer Khairani Noordin won Story of the Year with her cover story — “Into the metaverse”, marking the paper’s second consecutive win in the top prize.
SIAS’s Investors’ Choice Awards honours Singapore Exchange-listed companies for corporate governance and transparency.
The winners of this year's Singapore Corporate Governance Award are Keppel Corporation, Del Monte Pacific, Propnex, Stamford Tyres Corporation, CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust and Singapore Post.
