The eventful 2020 closes with Singapore’s manufacturing activity continuing to grow in December

Manufacturing activity in Singapore remained buoyant in Nov for the fifth consecutive month, albeit at a lower level than Oct.

Economists expect the growth momentum in manufacturing and electronics to continue in the coming months.

Manufacturing activity grew at a faster pace in August than the previous two months.

Manufacturing sentiment in Singapore was in the green in August, making this its second month of expansion.

Singapore’s manufacturing activity made a surprise expansion in June after five straight months of contraction. 

"Any exacerbation of the Covid-19 pandemic will prove to be more detrimental than beneficial for Singapore’s manufacturing environment,” says UOB economist Barnabas Gan.

A recent survey commissioned by Singapore’s Economic Development Boards (EDB) found that 60% of manufacturers here expect business conditions to worsen in the next six months.
