(Mar 29): Vietnam was able to achieve the same magnitude of export development in half the time it took China. And as the US-China trade spat continues, Vietnam has built on this momentum.

On March 28 and 29, the two world powers are resuming high-level talks in Beijing to resolve their trade differences. The talks take place amidst latest date that companies have been increasingly relocating their supply chain out of China to the former French colony.

According to Panjiva, a supply-chain research unit at S&P Global Market Intelligence, the shift of high value manufacturing to Vietnam had likely enabled the country to record y-o-y exports growth of 21.6% in 2017, compared to 7.9% for China. In 2018, Vietnam’s exports grew 10.6% y-o-y compared to China’s 9.9%.
