Passion, desire, excitement — things that keep us going amid the monotony of daily life. One fiery colour captures all of that, and a bag of (spicy) chips: red.

But despite its captivating symbolism, it’s a colour often avoided in furniture, for fear of coming across too loud or overbearing. And while that may be the case when paired with an unrestrained hand, a light touch of scarlets and vermillions can add a much-needed pop to the usual blacks, browns, beiges and whites in a room.

Louis Vuitton Diamond Armchair by Marcel Wanders

This sculptural number emulates the curves, contours and textures of a nest, with ash wood slats forming a rounded “cage” that cradles the seat. The strong red hue here makes those lines all the more apparent, especially when paired against a neutral or dark background. For those seeking a full set, there’s also a matching sofa.

Polspotten Tip Tap Side Table

For the minimalist who wants to inject a little jazz in their home, the Tip Tap Side Table is the best of both worlds, being at once simple and vivacious. Made of smooth, easy-to-clean fibreglass, it’s perfect for those constantly seeking to eradicate dust and dirt. And at just 45cm tall, the petite piece can be used as not just a table, but also a stool or even a plant stand.

Bottega Veneta Padded Intreccio Cushion

If you’re not feeling quite ready to jump into the world of big-ticket bright crimson furniture, try smaller items, such as this cushion from Bottega Veneta. Handwoven in padded leather, this piece features the brand’s signature woven style. Set against a sofa or armchair, it’s bound to catch attention without too much fanfare.

King Living King Cloud V 3-Seater 800 RW Smart

A modular design, the King Cloud V can be configured in any number of ways to fit one’s home. The reclining seats come with a TouchGlide® control system, allowing you to adjust everything with just a simple gesture. While customisations are aplenty, we especially like this brick-toned version in plush velvet. The fabric, Preston Velvet, is inspired by modernist artist Margaret Preston.

Acerbis x Gucci Storet Cabinet

Gucci has reimagined the classic Storet cabinet, designed by Nanda Virgo in collaboration with Acerbis in 1994. Rounded edges add a unique touch to the cabinet, almost reminiscent of a log cabin wall. The piece is part of Gucci Design Ancora, a project featuring five icons of Italian design, rendered in the Maison’s signature red.

Moooi Common Comrades Side Tables

Designed by Shanghai-based Neri & Hu, this set of six side tables displays a variety of shape and form while maintaining simple silhouettes throughout the line. Subtle light wood accents on each piece add a “reverse” pop, so to speak, integrating a small bit of neutrality against the glossy loudness.

Hands Carpets Volterra Red

Inspired by the artworks of the late Larry Roberts, the Volterra carpet emulates the Chicago-based artist's use of acrylics and bold colours. The carpet, which takes its name from the town in Italy, is covered in swirls and waves, adding further dimension to the hand-tufted texture.
