Cheng Chung Design (CCD), a luxury interior design firm, has opened an office in Singapore. The firm's new Asia Pacific headquarters outside of Greater China, located on the 25th floor of Collyer Quay Centre, was launched on Oct 7.
"Our plan to open an office in Singapore has been a long time coming," says CCD founder Joe Cheng, noting that the city-state is an "ideal launchpad" to introduce the firm's design ethos and "redefine the luxury design landscape" in the region. "We hope to strengthen our foothold in this part of the world and impart our expertise to cultivate a team of true design innovators that carry forward our spirit of pursuing excellence and quality in every creation."
CCD's design language centres on a merger of Eastern and Western aesthetics, with influences from both shaping the look of its projects to create "ideal [spaces] for living, travelling, and social sharing". The Singapore office is a continuation of that philosophy, with materials from the region such as bamboo and rattan helping to create a sense of familiarity.
The new office also incorporates a "de-office" concept, aimed at "building meaningful connections" and encouraging innovation. With a book bar, landscape gallery and art room, among others, each pocket of space has been rendered in dark tones that feel intimate and cosy. Elements that the firm has carried over from its other offices include a recurring motif of horses, which represent courage and speed, as well as a "fireplace", which has been reimagined as a minimalist setup of candles to better suit the local climate.
Since its launch in 1994, CCD has completed projects for clients such as Marriott, IHG and Hyatt. Among its most recent projects are the Mandarin Oriental Qianmen Beijing, Regent Shanghai On The Bund and Shangri-La Nanshan Shenzhen.
The Singapore office will house 30 design experts, led by CCD's senior vice-president Aldwin Ong. Ong says the expansion to Singapore will help the firm "close the proximity gap and allow [it] to work closely with international hotel brands based here". "This also enhances our organisation's global service capabilities and brand influence as an industry leader in groundbreaking and sustainable hospitality design," he adds.
