The joint agreement on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is expected to be signed on Dec 9, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi says, according to a report by Bernama.
Onn Hafiz has noted that the agreement is expected to be signed during the Malaysia-Singapore Joint Ministerial Committee for Iskandar Malaysia (JMCIM) retreat, set to happen on December 8 and 9.
This follows the special JMCIM meeting which was held in Johor Bahru on Nov 7 to discuss the progress of JS-SEZ, co-chaired by Malaysia’s economic minister Rafizi Ramli and Singapore’s minister for national development, Desmond Lee.
According to Bernama, Onn Hafiz has expressed confidence that Johor is entering its golden era, particularly with the inflow of international investments, including a RM1.5 billion ($451 million) investment from Mercedes-Benz.
Onn Hafiz noted that the state government is facilitating the investment process in Johor through the “Kulai Fast Lane” initiative, which will be expanded under the name Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre.
“Kulai Fast Lane has facilitated the entry of more than 38 investments worth RM52 billion,” Onn Hafiz stated.
