SINGAPORE (July 4): For many of us, weekends are our diet cheat days and enjoy a little indulgence. One of my favourite things to do is leisurely brunch with friends. The place to provide us with the food and ambience is Firebake – Woodfired Bakehouse & Restaurant.

Located in the East Coast, this bakehouse and restaurant has been around since March 2017 so a few changes have been made to keep it fresh. The menu has been tweaked and weekend opening hours now start at 9am for the early birds.

Here are four dishes to try:

Firebake Tartine ($18) is an open faced sandwich that is topped with roasted tomatoes; whipped feta with kalamata olives; parsley; lemon zest; pickled cucumber; tarragon and cashew nut. Toppings for the tartines will change so expect something new and deliciously wonderful on the menu from time to time.

Grilled Argentinian Striploin ($28) is grilled over traditional woodstove to seal in the juices of this beautiful cut of meat. It is served on a slice of rye bread and salsa verde.

The Seafood Risotto ($26) is packed with flavours from the scallops, prawns and mussels and the dish is served with a generous portion of Mediterranean seabass and asparagus.

Wagyu Cheese Burger ($18) melts in your mouth with the juicy patty made from the lean and fatty bits of Australian Wagyu and it sits between wood-fired sourdough potato buns. Don’t bother with the cutlery, we recommend you use your hands and just enjoy the burger.

Regulars at Firebake will be pleased that the favourites from the breakfast menu still remain: Milk Buns with Traditional Kaya ($3.50); Firebake Morning Buns with almond, lemon and cinnamon ($3.50); savoury Cheesymite of cheddar cheese with vegemite ($3.50); Firebake Croissant rolls ($3/$3.50 with chocolate); Greek Yoghurt Breakfast ($12++); Baked Eggs with Mushroom and Bacon ($18++); Poached eggs on Sourdough Toast with Avocado Spread; Dukkah and Feta ($23++).
