Surrounded by nature

Tackle stress head-on with a wellness-themed trip to the newly-renovated Anantara Veli Maldives Resort and indulge in some self-care therapies. The resort is located on the South Malé Atoll and is surrounded by a pristine lagoon, inspiring New York-based designer Yuji Yamazaki to develop a concept rooted in nature and wellness.

The wellness concept allows guests to book a personalised Wellness Villa experience with enhanced light, sound and scent therapy that changes the ambience from day to night. The villa comes with Ayurvedic spa amenities, an earthing mat for meditation, and a wellness minibar with herbal teas, healthy shakes and wholefood snacks.

Additionally, consultations are available with a resident naturopath and nutritionist, personal trainer, and yoga and lifestyle coach. The spa goes beyond the traditional spa experience with wellness options ranging from Ayurvedic and holistic treatments to the latest in epigenetics, sound healing and IV therapies. The brand-new Moroccan hammam offers authentic treatments and other treatments you can expect, including a nail salon, a medical spa, a Shirodhara treatment bed, a steam room and sauna, indoor and outdoor showers, and a relaxation garden with hot and cold plunge pools.

After the treatment, treat yourself to the finest cuisines from across the globe while learning about old and new-world wines from the resort’s Wine Guru. Cumin offers dishes from Sri Lanka, India and Maldives, while the stylishly refurbished Origami serves modern Japanese fare, including teppanyaki and robatayaki. Poolside, Dhoni Bar specialises in Mediterranean tapas, with coffee and smoothies daily and Champagne and signature cocktails after dark.

The wellness Standard

Here is another place you can check out in the Maldives: The Standard Huruvalhi offers the Eco Escape wellness package in partnership with Seed to Skin and The Organic Pharmacy. Nestled amongst the beautiful Raa Atoll, the five-day package offers a focused itinerary — including daily yoga and specially curated facial —, for you to relax and restore in ultimate paradise. Here in paradise, you can experience steam rooms, a hammam and a spa deck, providing a spiritual haven for each wellness experience.

Guests will receive two signature treatments by The Organic Pharmacy, including a 90-minute Deep Sleep Massage and Rose Renewal Ritual. The Deep Sleep Massage is for frequent travellers and people suffering from sleep issues. This relaxing treatment starts with a foot bath in water infused with relaxing oils, followed by a full body massage with rejuvenating foot acupressure and a mini facial — the rich aromatic blends aid detoxification, strengthening muscles and joints, relieving jet lag and promoting better sleep.

The Rose Renewal Ritual soothes, nourishes, and repairs skin with a cooling and hydrating treatment. Ideal for dry, sun-exposed, or damaged skin, this calming body therapy includes a gentle yet effective Cleopatra body scrub enriched with Ylang Ylang, Rose Germanium and Sea Salt to reduce redness and fight radical damage. The treatment is finished with an antioxidant facial, intensive serum, and butter to restore skin cells.

The package also includes a 60-minute candle massage with Seed to Skin. A relaxing experience where a warm candle is delicately poured onto the skin and massaged with slow sweeping movements. Rich in skin conditioning ingredients, guests will feel the benefits of argan oil, coconut extract and shea butter infused with oud wood and vanilla.

The forest treatment

Six Senses Vana (named after the sal forest of the Himalayan foothills of India) aims to protect and nurture. Ayurveda, Yoga, Tibetan Medicine and Natural Healing Therapies combine with daily activities and personalised care. Even the food served has healing properties, such as the Ayurvedic speciality restaurant, therapies, acupuncture, reflexology, and natural alignment.

Treatments will vary depending on the length of stay, how deep guests wish to go, and the level of independence or support they feel they need. Every stay includes full-board accommodation and personalised nutrition, daily retreat activities, wellness consultation and screening, and attire to wear. There is also the option to tailor the itinerary by choosing a program based on specific needs, with diagnostics and targeted guidance from the experts. Here are some examples:

Sleep: Tracking sleep patterns and helping guests to reset through treatments and therapies that will include yoga Nidra, holistic massages, night-time soporific drinks, and more.

Healing secrets of the Middle East

Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som in the Middle East introduces its Therapeutic Cleanse Retreat, designed for guests looking to fine-tune their diet or embark on a dietary transformation.

The concept is based on Traditional Arabic and Islamic Medicine (TAIM) principles. The individually tailored retreat offers guests at Zulal Serenity the opportunity to discover a new path towards more nourishing foods, bringing their digestive and metabolic systems back to optimal function for sustaining health.

Following these principles, health at Zulal Wellness Resort is understood as a balanced state between the four ‘humour’ (phlegm, blood, yellow and black bile) in the body and six essential lifestyle factors — diet and nutrition, air and environment, movement and rest, sleep and wakefulness, mental clarity and peace as well as retention and elimination. Available in three- to 14-night durations, Zulal Serenity’s Therapeutic Cleanse Retreat encompasses a fully personalised holistic programme and cleansing diet based on individuals’ temperament and the six essential factors to move them to the ideal state of balance.

Throughout your wellness journey, you will be guided by a personal Health and Wellness Advisor, macro- and micro-nutrients, herbal and nutritional supplements and local TAIM-inspired ingredients that are carefully curated to give you a natural detoxification process. A programme of outdoor activities focussing on movement and rest includes beach yoga, Pranayama breathing and meditation to help bring guests mental clarity and improve sleep.

At the same time, a series of detoxifying treatments such as lymphatic drainage, balneotherapy and colon hydrotherapy allows the body and digestive system to reset.
