Demand for Starlink services in sub-Saharan Africa has soared in recent years as local operators often struggle to provide fast broadband internet.

Musk’s sometimes-erratic behavior has complicated his deep relationships with the Pentagon, mainly through SpaceX’s work on satellite launches and through his Starlink satellite-based internet service

Jokowi, who had earlier been slated to attend the Starlink inauguration in Bali, was not in attendance.

Some US$20 billion or US$30 billion may be needed in the longer term to maintain Starlink’s competitive position.
