SINGAPORE (Oct 6): Singapore has stepped up efforts to woo Chinese tourists amid weaker traveller sentiments and lower corporate demand.

“Large-scale events here have increasingly been catering towards Chinese tourists,” says OCBC Investment Research lead analyst Deborah Ong in a Thursday report. “We expect the Singapore Tourism Board’s active engagement with Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities in China to put Singapore in good stead going forward.”

In a clear signal of Singapore’s courtship of Chinese tourists, the 2016 edition of the Great Singapore Sale broke off its long-standing relationship with MasterCard to partner with Chinese payments firm UnionPay International.
