SINGAPORE (July 26): ST Electronics, a unit of ST Engineering, today launched its commercial imagery service through its first commercial earth observation satellite, the TeLEOS-1.

The service, which takes high-resolution, black and white photos for clients, is the first in the world to offer commercial customers one meter resolution with a near-equatorial orbit remote sensing satellite.

TeLEOS-1 orbits laterally around the earth within a 15 degree range around the equatorial belt. This orbit allows it to revisit a spot in 12 to 16 hours, meaning customers can get pictures more quickly. Current commercial satellites take two to three days to return to the same area.
