SINGAPORE (May 18): Singapore stocks, like most Asian markets, closed lower on Wednesday after strong US data overnight fuelled talk of an interest rate hike.

As at 5.04pm, the benchmark Straits Times Index was down 4.00 points or 0.14% to 2,777.11. The broader market saw 1.93 billion shares traded with a combined value of $1.06 billion. Losers beat gainers 192 to 176.

China Aviation Oil Singapore closed 9.2% higher at $1.005 with 5.4 million shares traded. At 3.12pm, Singapore Exchange asked the jet fuel supplier to disclose any information or explanation for the unusual trading movements of its shares.
