SINGAPORE (Aug 24): Singapore stocks closed higher on Wednesday, thanks largely to banks and offshore marine counters.

As at 5.04pm, the key Straits Times Index (STI) was up 19.14 points or 0.7% to 2,869.57. About 987.5 million shares with a value of $838.2 million changed hands. Gainers outnumbered losers 236 to 151.

Magnus Energy was the most active, seeing 76.3 million shares traded. Noble Group was next with 70.9 million shares while LionGold was third with a trading volume of 39.3 million.
