Maritime companies can now use an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot to navigate port agency communication hurdles with digital platform provider Greywing’s SeaGPT.

Thus far, the communication process within maritime companies has mainly been analog. Crew changes are often planned through spreadsheets while flight bookings are done through email or phone.

Putting a crew change into action is also a typically elaborate process due to its complex data set. Crew managers have to stay on top of changing immigration restrictions in hundreds of countries and thousands of ports around the world.

Additionally, many crews include members of different nationalities, who are often subject to different immigration or vaccination restrictions.

With a simple query sent to SeaGPT via email and Greywing’s platform, fleet managers can access all the port, immigration as well as travel details they need to decide on a crew change.

Through SeaGPT, emails related to port agency communication can be instantly automated — SeaGPT has the ability to handle emails, clarify questions and provide crews with relevant information, saving them time and reducing risks of errors.

It can also accurately interpret maritime and port-specific data on the back of intel directly from Greywing’s dataset, which includes official insight and databases from over 18,300 ports.

Unlike AI-powered chatbots for generic mainstream use, SeaGPT does not allow “hallucinations”. This means if the requested details are not available, SeaGPT will never assume or impersonate information but flag that there is missing data instead.

The chatbot is available in English, Hindi, Greek, Russian and Mandarin, among others. It may be further integrated with Slack, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp and SMS.
