In Coursera’s report The Job Skills of 2023, the online learning platform notes that the top 10 overall fastest-growing skills are digital skills.
“The ongoing evolution of technology means employers are regularly seeking new digital competencies from potential hires while also reskilling existing workers,” the report says, adding that the top 10 digital skills “vary significantly” from that of 2022, with only data visualisation and user experience carrying into 2023 from 2022.
“The human skills in demand remain steadier, suggesting an evergreen demand for skills like change management and communication,” the report says.
In addition, skills centred on user experience are on the rise. In particular, skills related to customer success tools and user experience design have seen increased interest, notes the report.
Despite the layoffs in the tech industry, Raghav Gupta, Coursera’s managing director for Asia Pacific, notes that there are still jobs that are transforming the banking, financial services and insurance sectors. Some of the digital jobs that are changing the sectors include roles in software development, data analytics, cloud computing, as well as cybersecurity, privacy and trust, he says.
