A highly respected manufacturer of high-end sanitaryware, Duravit transforms the ordinary and personal bathroom and shower space into a luxurious experience, revitalising everyday rituals.
Its brand’s history traces back to Hornberg, Germany, in 1817, when Georg Friedrich Horn established an earthenware factory primarily focused on crockery production. By 1842, the company expanded its offerings to include sanitary ceramics, progressing from earthenware to porcelain manufacturing. Today, Duravit AG operates globally with 12 production facilities and a workforce exceeding 7,000 employees worldwide.
Since it entered Singapore in 2013, it has been operating on a B2B level, catering to distributors and commercial clientele across Southeast Asia. To commemorate its 10th anniversary in the city-state, the German company unveiled its first-ever global B2C retail concept on Nov 9.
Located at Tras Street, the 1,200 sq ft showroom brings premium sanitaryware and furniture to customers at all levels. For the first time, end consumers can directly walk in, view its latest product lines, consult with its team of experts, and purchase products across different lines and price levels to create bathrooms uniquely theirs. It would also continue as a distributor training centre and a venue for industry events.
“It’s a new, exciting retail concept for Duravit,” says Peter Bromberger, Duravit’s head of Asia Pacific and India. “Singapore is a global business hub, and choosing this island for the inaugural B2C showroom is part of Duravit’s strategic global expansion to showcase our innovations to a wider audience.”
Duravit’s Asia general manager, Alpha Ang, adds: “Duravit’s transformation in Singapore from a Training Centre to a brand retail showroom couldn’t come at a more opportune time. We expect the new showroom to cater to Singapore’s sophisticated consumer market and boost Duravit’s local presence.”
Welcoming visitors within the elegant flagship is the full array of Duravit’s most opulent offerings: The Artisan Lines. Adhering to the philosophy of being “Manufactured to be extraordinary,” Duravit has brought together the products and series of Artisan Lines for the first time, consolidating their debut at the ISH in Frankfurt earlier this year.
The outcome is a compilation of design pieces with an artisanal essence, distinguished by coherence and individuality, meticulously crafted by renowned international designers. The Artisanal Lines collection comprises four bathroom collections: White Tulip and Bento Starck Box by Philippe Starck, Zencha by Sebastian Herkner, and Vitrium by Christian Werner.
Each of these perpetually contemporary collections possesses a unique signature, establishing its nuances and highlights by the distinct style of the respective designer. One of our favourites is Herkner’s Zencha line, inspired by the artisanal tea cups in a Japanese tea ceremony.
In addition to the Artisan Lines, the new Qatego bathroom range introduces three stone consoles that draw inspiration from nature, mirroring the smooth contours of water-worn pebbles. Crafted by the renowned designers at Studio F. A. Porsche creates an unmistakable and welcoming ambience in the bathroom. The opening of the Duravit Showroom marks the first time the Qatego collection has been showcased in Asia.
Bento Starck Box by Philippe Strack
Inspired by the traditional Japanese bento boxes subdivided into several compartments by separators, the Bento Starck Box collection is synonymous with exacting precision and skilled craftsmanship. Divided wet and dry areas open up countless individual design options
Vitrium by Christian Werner
Christian Werner collaborated with Duravit to craft his first washbasins, achieving a timeless modernity with a homely feel. These washbasins, integrated with console vanity units and washbasin vanity units, represent a breakthrough as the first to be produced using Duravit’s proprietary mineral casting technique, DuroCast UltraResist. This method involves a double lacquer surface coating, ensuring robustness and easy cleaning. Additionally, it results in a velvety surface, offering an exceptional tactile experience
Zencha by Sebastian Herkner
This year’s notable Singapore launch, the Zencha bathroom collection, blends distinctive above-counter basins with minimalist furniture. The collection draws inspiration from the Japanese tea ceremony and the teacup’s shapes, showcasing a rounded form that gracefully extends into an outward-curving edge. An elegant 6mm thick frame stands out as a key design feature
White Tulip by Philippe Starck
Launched in Singapore in 2022, White Tulip is Starck’s first comprehensive bathroom range. The French award-winning designer drew inspiration from the organic shape of a tulip in bloom, evoking a sculptural, gentle character reflected in each piece’s graceful details and superb workmanship. The collection includes bathtubs, washbasins and furniture, toilets and bidets, and smart mirrors
