SINGAPORE (Dec 31): As recent incidents have shown, work place culture makes all the difference between an effective organisation, versus one with damaged reputation requiring long period of repair – if at all.

Just look at the recent SingHealth data breach episode, described one of the most serious of its kind here, with some 1.5 million patients’ records accessed illegally.

A senior manager at Integrated Health Information Systems, the IT contractor for SingHealth, had a very simple reason why he didn’t raise the alarm that breaches to database had taken place. “Once we escalate to management, there will be no day no night,” he reportedly told the Committee of Inquiry.
