Chaly Mah Chee Kheong, who is currently chairman of the Singapore Tourism Board, Singapore Accountancy Commission and NetLink NBN, has been appointed chairman of Surbana Jurong effective Jan 1, 2021.
Mah will succeed Liew Mun Leong, Surbana Jurong’s founding chairman, who retired in the wake of a highly publicised court case.
Mah’s appointment follows the board’s approval of a recommendation by Surbana Jurong’s executive resource & compensation committee.
“Chaly’s leadership credentials and his desire to see Surbana Jurong continue its growth journey, delivering sustainable social and economic impact for our clients, appeal to us all,” says Tan Gee Paw, one of the board’s longest serving directors, in a Dec 28 statement.
“I look forward to working with the board and management to leverage on this strong platform to advance the group into a leading global player,” says Mah in the same statement.

On Sept 10, Liew announced his retirement from his roles in business and public service.
The announcement came after the High Court overturned a previous judgement and acquitted Parti Liyani, Liew’s former maid, of stealing.
Parti was convicted of four charges of stealing from Liew and his family on March 2019 by district judge Olivia Low. She was accused of theft in 2016 by the Liews.
