Ong Beng Seng will continue to carry out his duties and responsibilities as Hotel Properties H15 ’ managing director, says the company in an announcement dated Oct 4.
This comes after Ong was charged in court for offences under Sections 165 and 204A(a) read with Section 109 of the Penal Code 1871 on the same day. Section 165 accuses Ong for abetting former transport minister, S Iswaran to obtain two flights and accommodation in Doha, Qatar worth $20,843.03. The offence under Section 204A(a) is for abetting Iswaran to obstruct the course of justice, reads the release by the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
The charges against Ong correspond to the two charges which Iswaran pleaded guilty to on Sept 24. Iswaran was sentenced to 12 months in jail on Oct 3.
According to Hotel Properties, Ong is currently on bail and is seeking legal advice on his charges. Ong says he will provide updates to the company’s board if there are “subsequent material developments”.
Shares in Hotel Properties last traded at $3.68 before it called for a trading halt on the morning of Oct 4.
