Phillip Securities, the brokerage and wealth management arm of PhillipCapital, has extended its robo services to include a portfolio that invests entirely in US stocks.
The brokerage firm is the first in Singapore to do so.
The service, SMART Portfolio US Equity, caters to investors who are keen to invest in the US markets through automated investing. It will also give its clients direct ownership of the underlying portfolio stock holdings.
The portfolio, which requires a minimum investment of $3,000 or US$2,500, invests in large-cap US-listed stocks with an expected average of 10 to 15 counters in the portfolio.
According to Phillip Securities, the number of its clients trading in the US markets increased by almost 25% between 2020 and 2021, indicating a strong interest in the US markets among its clients and across the industry.
“We understand that investors find it challenging to navigate the markets which can be volatile and unpredictable, especially so in current times. It can also be challenging to keep emotions at bay when investing with one’s own wealth. We recognise investors’ interest in the US markets but also understand that many might seek assistance in navigating the markets effectively. SMART Portfolio US Equity was built to address these needs,” says Chan Wai Chee, chief investing officer of Phillip Managed Accounts.

PhillipCapital’s SMART Portfolio was launched in 2017. It comprises three portfolios of various risk profiles with unit trusts as the underlying.
The portfolio invests with the brokerage’s proprietary Cyborg methodology which digests over 1,000 data points daily to optimise investments for its clients.
“We do not subscribe to a fixed rebalancing schedule. Our investment team monitors the markets and rebalances the portfolio when necessary, based on the volatility in the markets. This allows our proprietary algorithm to react in a timely manner when it deems fit,” Chan adds.
The portfolio comes with management fees of 0.8% per annum. There are no brokerage, performance, platform, rebalancing or upfront fees.
