Metaviva, a Web3 company and wholly-owned subsidiary of mm2 Entertainment, has partnered with The Sandbox to build a virtual playground in the latter’s gaming metaverse.
The virtual playground will focus on content creation and development for mm2’s entertainment brands.
Under the partnership, Metaviva and mm2 will take ownership of a 6x6 plot of land within The Sandbox to offer players interactive experiences featuring extensions of real-world content including films, drama series, sports, and music. Land owners within The Sandbox are able to host contests and events. The Sandbox metaverse has around 166,464 lands.
Players will be able to join a virtual film set and help create stories based on mm2’s existing intellectual property (IP). They might interact with digital characters or non-player characters (NPC) or help create plotlines and watch the characters play out their preferred script, says mm2 in its statement.
In addition, The Sandbox will work with Metaviva and mm2 to develop innovative experiences taking place on the Metaviva land.
“These immersive experiences will enable filmmakers and talents to engage with their fans, as well as promote upcoming films and generate new revenue streams and new forms of virtual entertainment,” says mm2.

The Sandbox, a leading decentralised gaming virtual world, is a community-driven metaverse platform. Here, users can build, own and monetise their gaming experiences. Users within The Sandbox will also be able to use the thousands of experiences created by other users.
“We are honoured to be in partnership with The Sandbox, joining over 400 existing brands in its metaverse. We are thrilled at the opportunity to bring our brand of entertainment to the digital world and in return, harness it as a source of new ideas and stories for us to bring to life in the real world,” says Ng Say Yong, chief content officer of mm2 Entertainment.
“We want to create exclusive content for players to experience this virtual space, in the form of entertainment and game play. Part of our business is listening to our target audience and developing stories and characters that will resonate,” he adds. “As people play and interact in our virtual playground, it will help us ideate and test concepts for future content, such as movies and series. We are looking to spur creativity in the blue ocean of the metaverse and convert it into real world content.”

“Our partnership with The Sandbox will allow us to explore new frontiers in the entertainment industry as well as keeping people engaged beyond what we can currently offer. With this partnership, we will be looking to bring the physical and digital worlds to people, to entertain them and to do our part in developing the next generation of budding talent for content creation for the metaverse,” says Darren Ho, head of Web3 and Metaviva.
“The metaverse is a great way for new types of storytelling to take place, allowing for players and fans to engage with their favourite content in a whole new way. They could potentially be a part of the story instead of just being a viewer. This partnership will give us the opportunity to realise that with some exciting IPs well loved by those within the region and internationally and we’re excited to work long term with mm2 and Metaviva to realise this vision,” says George Wong, head of Singapore for The Sandbox.
