Former president Halimah Yacob has been appointed as the chief patron of the Securities Investors Association (Singapore) or SIAS.
Halimah, the chancellor of the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), succeeds Dr Tony Tan, another former president. Tan was chief patron from Oct 12, 2017 to July 2 this year.
The chief patron is required to be “distinguished person who has been outstanding in their contributions to the betterment of Singapore’’, per SIAS’s constitution.
At the same time, City Developments (CDL) CEO Sherman Kwek was appointed as patron of SIAS.
Kwek serves on various committees and boards such as the Go East Committee, FutureChina Committee and the board of trustees of the Chinese Development Assistance Council. He is also chairman of SingHealth’s property committee and a member of MOH Holdings’ (MOHH) Healthcare infrastructure and planning committee.
