SINGAPORE (Mar 13): Singapore has been ranked the city with the highest quality of living in Asia, according to Mercer’s 21st annual Quality of Living survey.
Following closely behind the city state are five Japanese cities of Tokyo, Kobe, Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya, and then Hong Kong and Seoul.
Mario Ferraro, Regional Practice Leader for Mercer Global Mobility – Asia, Middle East, Africa & Turkey, says, “As part of Singapore’s Smart Nation vision, the city is continuously improving the standard of living of its residents with greater connectivity and sustainability of resources. Considering its relatively small geographic footprint and the scarcity in resources, Singapore has had to think differently to remain competitive against neighbouring emerging markets.”
“We continue to see huge forward-thinking policies that have enabled Singapore to develop economically and infrastructurally, bringing benefits to its residents, whilst making the city Asia’s most attractive destination for foreign talent,” Ferraro adds.
Maintaining its top spot within the region, Singapore also ranked 25th city with the highest quality of living globally. And for 10 years consecutively, Vienna has topped the global charts, closely followed by Zurich, Auckland, Munich and Vancouver.
Australia has also continues to rank highly in quality of living with its major cities ranking within the top 50 for safety. Sydney is the top Australian city with the highest quality of living and ranks 11th globally.
