Tan Su Shan, who will be the first woman to lead DBS Group as CEO in March 2025, has been named on Forbes Asia’s 2024 Power Businesswomen list.

In its release on Nov 5, Forbes unveiled its 2024 Asia’s Power Businesswomen list, honouring 20 outstanding female leaders.

According to Forbes, these leaders have been selected for their achievements and proven track records, representing a new generation of business leaders who are ready to face any difficulties ahead.

Veteran banker Tan, who joined DBS in 2010 from Morgan Stanley, ran DBS’ consumer banking and wealth management businesses for almost a decade before moving into her current role as deputy CEO and head of institutional banking.

In her response to Forbes Asia, she notes that given evolving technology, geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties, managing a bank “is no longer about having contingency plans, it is about agility, the ability to pivot and being prepared to adapt swiftly. That is what keeps us resilient and future ready.”

Other names on the list include Shina Chung, who has headed Kakao since March this year, becoming the first female CEO and Miwako Date, president and CEO of Tokyo-based Mori Trust Holdings since 2016.

Rana Wehbe Watson, list editor, notes that “Forbes Asia’s Power Businesswomen list this year spotlights 20 executives, entrepreneurs and family business members who are steering their companies through industry challenges and economic uncertainties.”

“From leading property developers and financial institutions to innovating in EVs and manufacturing, they are instilling bold strategies and a renewed sense of optimism in industries across the region,” she adds.
