Popmart’s collectible “Labubu” has dethroned “Taylor Swift” to rise to fifth place among Carousell’s top searches for the year, and on average Singaporean users earned $2,000 selling secondhand items. This is according to Carousell’s first “Year-in-Secondhand” insights, published on Nov 26.
According to the secondhand marketplace, the five most common searches by Carousell’s Singapore users this year were “Rolex”, “chair”, “iPhone”, “free” and “Labubu”.
Between Jan 1 and Oct 31, the search for chairs rose 52 spots to become the second most-searched item, overtaking iPhones.
Meanwhile, Singaporean users earned $2,000 selling secondhand items, the highest in the region. This is 70% more than users in Hong Kong and 140% more than those in Malaysia.
Singapore also gives away the most free items regionally, with over 300,000 items including popular choices such as sofas and IKEA tables.
Carousell’s data reveals that users are generally most active at night across the region, with peak chat and search timings at 10pm. However, Singapore and Hong Kong users tend to transact the most in the evenings at 6pm, while users in Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan transact the most at 9pm.
According to Carousell’s data, Singapore leads the region in secondhand furniture transactions, saving 21,970 tonnes of carbon emissions.
The most popular categories in Singapore are women’s fashion, hobbies and toys, as well as furniture and home living.
