SINGAPORE (Feb 25): In Singapore’s sweltering hot weather, an ice cold beer is always a good thrist quencher.
Singapore is intending to add in a local touch into a special brew of beer this July. The Public Utilities Board (PUB) is partnering craft brewery Brewerkz to bring back NEWBrew for the upcoming Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) that will be held on July 5 to 9.
What is special about this beer is that it is made with NEWater, Singapore’s own brand of ultra-high grade recycled water, which is purified with advanced membrane technologies and ultraviolet disinfection. Beer brewed with NEWater is said to have a special taste profile that is clean with a crisp finish.
To create this year’s NEWBrew, PUB and Brewerkz will be collaborating to organise a NEWBrew Hopularity Contest. This is a first-ever contest that will allow Singapore’s community of homebrewers to have a go at crafting what will eventually be served during SIWW 2020 and sold in FairPrice stores. And of course, the contestants will have to brew their competing beer with NEWater.
The entry judged to possess the most interesting and delectable taste will be crowned champion and become the version that Brewerkz will go on to produce for SIWW 2020.
This limited-edition craft brew will be served to delegates attending the show. And PUB is partnering NTUC FairPrice to make a limited run of canned NEWBrew available for public sale at selected FairPrice outlets in July 2020.
