The Edge Singapore has won three awards at the seventh annual SGX Orb Awards, including the top award of Story of the Year. The Edge Singapore last scored a hat trick at the annual awards back in 2021.
Senior writer Nicole Lim’s cover story from November 2023 — “Creator economy: The new kings and queens of content” — took home the top prize, while assistant editor Khairani Afifi Noordin extended The Edge Singapore’s four-year winning streak in The Hidden Gem category with her cover story from June — “Too heavy a price for sin stocks?”.

This is Lim’s first win at the annual awards by the Singapore Exchange S68 , while this is Khairani’s third win in as many years. She won Story of the Year in 2022 with her cover story on the metaverse, and she won The Hidden Gem last year with her cover story on digital banks’ debut in Singapore, a joint effort with assistant editor Jovi Ho.

Ho won in this year’s special category, Doing What It Takes, with his cover story from April on impact investing. This is Ho’s fourth win at the annual awards; he won Story of the Year in 2021, before winning The Hidden Gem the next two years.

The Edge Singapore dominated two of the award categories this year, occupying all six nominee slots for Story of the Year and Doing What It Takes.
In total, six cover stories by The Edge Singapore received eight nominations this year, including associate editor Samantha Chiew’s cover story “Is the Singapore telco market heading for a consolidation”.
Lim and writer Douglas Toh’s cover on semiconductor firms also received a nomination in The Hidden Gem category, while Khairani and former writer Bryan Wu’s cover on the start-up life cycle was nominated for Story of the Year.
The Business Times and CNA Money Mind were named joint winners in the An Experiential Treat category, which is awarded to creative methods of storytelling. Lianhe Zaobao’s Sunday column, The Wealth Brocade Pouch, won #TheGoTo award.
Submissions were reviewed by an independent panel of judges comprising Adrienne Teh, managing director at 65 Equity Partners; Bill Herder, head of Asia-Pacific at FIA; Chris Wright, former Asia editor of Euromoney and co-founding partner of Resonate Global Advisors; and Joe Yan, operating partner of Granite Asia.
