To address the shortage of local tech talent in Singapore and help Singaporeans enhance their career prospects and employability in ICT industries, Huawei ICT Academy has partnered Singapore Polytechnic to launch an industry certification-based train and place course.
The course on artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud services is part of the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (supported by SkillsFuture Singapore). The certification-based “train and place” initiative enables local talents to pick up new skills and pivot to the ICT sector under the programme.
Participants taking the course will learn the essential and fundamental skills in AI and cloud computing industries. They will be certified in five domains — computer networking, Python programming, AI, cloud services, and storage solutions. The knowledge gained will prepare participants for various job roles offered by Huawei and its solution partners.
Fresh graduates or diploma holders in information technology, computer science, engineering, or other related fields with basic knowledge in cloud computing, computer systems, and networking are eligible to apply for the programme. Applicants with qualifications outside of the specified fields will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Interested individuals may apply for the programme via the SP PACE website.

Established in 1954, Singapore Polytechnic is Singapore’s first polytechnic. It has 10 schools that offer 30 full-time diploma courses and three common entry programmes for more than 13,500 students.
Huawei has been striving to build a healthy ICT talent ecosystem in Singapore through its ICT Academy to address the shortage of local ICT professionals. Since 2019, it has forged strong alliances with nine local Institutes of higher learning. Singapore Polytechnic has been recognised as a Huawei ICT Academy partner since 2020.
Over the past three years, Huawei ICT Academy has trained over 2,000 Singapore students and certified more than 30 lecturers.
In the recent Huawei Global ICT Competition 2020/2021, two student teams from Singapore Polytechnic won the grand prize and the second prize out of 109 teams comprising 327 students from 39 countries, marking the first time Singapore has received first prize in this annual worldwide event.
By bridging the gap between company demand and school supply, Huawei intends to provide more technical and skilled individuals with access to innovative technologies and greater support for innovation and entrepreneurship — facilitating a virtuous cycle which supports the sustainable development of the ICT industry
