Seatrium has signed two landmark agreements with the National University of Singapore (NUS) to promote energy transition and sustainability in Singapore.
The first agreement is signed with NUS’s College of Design and Engineering (CDE) to establish the Seatrium Professorship. The Professorship agreement aims to attract top talents in energy transition and sustainability to promote knowledge transfer and develop innovative technology and processes, and to boost competitiveness locally.
The agreement outlines several responsibilities including establishing infrastructure to facilitate interest in energy transition and sustainability, charting the course for renewable technologies in Singapore, setting up networks to facilitate knowledge exchange and more.
The agreement was signed by Professor Teo Kie Leong, acting dean, NUS CDE, and Aziz Merchant, executive vice president, technology & new product development at Seatrium. The Professorship will be chaired by Professor Richard Liew, NUS CDE’s head of department of civil and environmental engineering.
Christopher Wiernicki, chairman and CEO of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), will be the first Seatrium visiting professor.

The second agreement is a learning partnership with NUS’s School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (NUS SCALE) to strengthen the technical and business competencies of Seatrium’s employees through continuous education and training.
Seatrium and NUS SCALE will be working together in areas such as identifying and matching Seatrium’s technical training needs with courses available from NUS’s various disciplines in Science, Engineering, Computing and Business through the signing of a new All-You-Can-Learn (AYCL).
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by Associate Professor Tan Woei Wan, vice dean, NUS SCALE and Seatrium’s chief people officer, Dr Lee Chay Hoon.

Over the next three years, Seatrium will commit a minimum of 500 training days a year for employees to take up various academic and executive programmes with NUS SCALE; the university will also provide four complimentary workshops or masterclasses a year to eligible Seatrium employees.

Shares in Seatrium closed 0.2 cents lower or 1.6% down at 12.3 cents on Oct 6.
