All Singaporeans aged 18 and above will get $100 worth of SingapoReDiscovers vouchers that can be spent on staycations, local attractions, and local tours.

This comes after Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced in August that $320 million worth of such vouchers will be given out to encourage Singaporeans to support local tourism businesses.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said the tickets will come in denominations of $10, and can be used to offset ticket purchases and hotel stays until the end of June next year. Permanent residents will not be eligible for the vouchers.

STB said more details of the redemption will be announced in November, and expects that the redemption process for the vouchers will adopt a digital mode by default over the Singpass app.

However, it reassured that it will provide support for those who have difficulties using such methods.

Speaking to Singapore media, Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing said “This is not a social assistance scheme. This is an economic scheme to help our tourist attractions to preserve their capabilities that have been built up over the years, while they consolidate capacity in the interim.”

A $10 subsidy will also be provided for children and youth tickets for attractions and tours, said the STB. Each person can purchase up to six children or youth tickets at subsidised prices.

All licensed hotels, tourist attractions and tours that have been approved by the STB to operate or reopen can benefit from this scheme.

In a factsheet, STB also said from September 18, attractions that have received approval to resume operations can apply to STB to increase their operating capacity from 25 per cent to up to 50 per cent, subject to approval by the Trade and Industry Ministry (MTI).

Attractions can also apply to STB to scale up the capacity at their outdoor shows to a maximum of five zones, with 50 people per zone, subject to the implementation of safe management measures.

STB said each zone should provide sufficient space for at least one metre distancing between individuals who are not from the same group, and zones should be clearly demarcated with a separation of at least three metres between zones.

Previously, outdoor shows were subjected to a maximum capacity limit of 50 people.
