Don’t be too envious of people with thick hair. They suffer just as many crowning issues as those with thinning hair and pay just as much for products and treatments.
The hot humid weather exacerbates the problem even further, causing typically soft and shiny hair to feel frizzy and look matte and unruly.
If this is a problem for you, we recommend the newly-revamped Shiseido Professional Sublimic Airy Flow line which features a supercharged tress-taming formula that utilises a Thermal Flow-Motion System technology to soften hair at its core.
Rather than merely “smoothening” the hair shaft from the outside, the secret complex of ingredients corrects the cross-sectional shape of each strand while maintaining moisture balance. This rebuilds and restores the inner structure of unruly wavy hair for long-lasting hair control.
Launched in 2019, Sublimic Airy Flow is one of five haircare collections under the Shiseido Professional’s Sublimic series, specifically designed to address hard-to-manage hair, straight, wavy or curly. Along with this year’s reformulation, it’s also added in another category within the collection to address thicker hair types. This evolution of sub-categorisation helps cater to a wider range of hair concerns, while providing a more personalised hair care experience for users.
Currently available are two different categories based on hair volume and texture: Unruly Hair for those who want an airy and bouncy finish; Thick and Unruly Hair for those who want an airy and smooth finish with suppressed volume. Both offer a four-step regimen consisting of a shampoo, conditioning treatment, hair mask and leave-in fluid/oil ideal for heat styling. One of the star products is the Airy Flow Mask enriched with the new Thermo-Shaping Complex technology to intensively repair hair cuticles.

The real draw of Airy Flow is its compatibility with heat styling equipment. Supposedly, the heat activation from blow dryers or flat irons further reinforces your hair’s resistance to heat and humidity. When I applied the leave-in Refining Fluid, my hair seemed more obedient during the blow dry. By day end, I did a frizz check and was happy to report that there was nary a strand out of place.
Whether you are struggling to manage thick and poofy hair or trying to add that extra bounce to flat and fine hair, the new and improved Sublimic Airy Flow makes it easy to achieve soft, smooth hair perfect for our hot and humid climate.
A professional brand that has been manufacturing products for hair salons since 1974, Shiseido Professional only officially became a brand in 2004, and now offers a variety of mainstay items for hair salons such as hair colours and perm solutions, hair care, styling, and other products.

The complete range of Shiseido Professional Sublimic shampoos (from left): Aqua Intensive, Luminoforce, Airy Flow, Fuente Forte, Adenovital
To help customers prolong the effects of in-salon treatments, the brand offers at-home maintenance products under the Sublimic collection. Adenovital targets hair thinning and ageing; Aqua Intensive targets hair damage stemming from either dryness or weakening due to repeated perm and colouring; Luminoforce treats coloured hair to enhance shine and colour longevity; Airy Flow tames unruly locks; Fuente Force restores scalp imbalances; and Wonder Shield protects the hair from external stressors.
As with all Shiseido Professional products, it’s possible to mix and match items, as and when you need them. For example, if you have thinning but frizzy flyaway strands, you can alternate Airy Flow with Adenovital. And if, like me, you have a particularly oilier scalp on top of frizzy flyaway hair, you can alternate Airy Flow with products from Fuente Forte.
The new and extended Sublimic Airy Flow range is available at selected Shiseido Professional partner salons and on Shiseido Professional Official LazMall Store.
