This year’s national day we suggest locally-made items that you can wear or items that are in either red or white to represent our nation’s flag

Explore Singapore with a card

Two limited-edition National Day EZ-Link cards were launched in partnership with local artist Lee Kow Fong or Ah Guo. The artwork features the resilience of Singaporeans during these trying times through everyday scenes. For example, A Vibrant Future depicts children in Singapore filled with joy and excitement as they play while Higher We Go! captures the spirit of the heartlands.

Red, white and green

Longchamp’s Le Pliage bag was launched in 1993 and has since become the most loved functional bag to carry. In 2019 and 2029, Le Pliage Green was launched that uses sustainable alternatives to its durable nylon canvas. Go green by carrying the bag that comes in red and white.

Food you can wear

Homegrown designer Reckless Erica uses Singaporean icons as print for her fabrics that she uses to craft her wardrobe collection. Her latest is the ‘kaya toast’ print such as the Butterfly Pea Kaya Toast print that has elements of how the Butterfly Pea flower would look like when it is steeped in boiling water and the essence is extracted. It is fun, quirky, and very local. Or if you prefer the red theme for National Day, then her off-shoulder top in red would be ideal.

Cover up

If you are watching the parade at the Floating Platform, you can be sure the weather is going to be warm. Use this scarf by Givenchy that can stylishly double up as a neckerchief or a bandana.

Homemade

Prominent homegrown jeweller Poh Heng celebrates the nation’s 56th birthday by launching a campaign for the Poh Heng Legacy collection, in line with the brand's promise, Created for Love. The collection is inspired by the Peranakan heritage with necklaces, earrings and bracelets — all featuring designs inspired by the iconic Peranakan tile. The pieces are made of 18K yellow gold or rose gold in an intricate floral motif frame adorned by a round diamond centre, and inlaid with semi-precious materials and available in four variations: Mother of Pearl, Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, and Agate.

Lounging around

Laze in bed this public holiday in Je Dors short pyjamas set in Red Dahlia from local brand Rawbought. These sleepwear are made with naturally soft and breathable fabric.

A Must have

The Must Game bag by Cartier in Burgundy comes with lambskin lining and a secret pocket that holds a mirror; great for last-minute touch-ups.

Red gems

Get your bling on with Gema, Swarovski’s collection that uses a variety of stone cuts and rich, vibrant colours to give us a collection that brings joy to the wearer.

Sitting pretty

Watch the parade on TV seated in the luxurious Palm Duet chaise longue by Loro Piana Interiors. Shaped like the palm of a hand, its pure lines follow a spiral movement with no interruptions and no angles as it wraps you in comfort. Love the natural off-white shade.

Clean, pure water

A Singaporean stumbles upon an idea while on her travels, and a water purification system was born

“Lack of clean water, lack of sanitation, and unfamiliarity with good hygiene practices kill more people every year than all acts of war and violence, auto accidents, and HIV/AIDS combined.”

That quote from https://www.pure- waterfortheworld.org/ is a wake-up call for all of us who value our health now even more than ever. Pure Water is an organisation that aims to empower people with access to safe water.

In Singapore, we are lucky enough to be able to drink water directly from the tap; perhaps an additional step is needed.

Sterra Water Purifier is a tankless water purifier system that was started by a Singaporean after a backpacking trip to South Korea and lived in many Korean homes. In each home she found that every home has a device that filters and dispenses water.

Hence, the Sterra Water Purifier was born.

With a touch of a button, you get either hot or cold water that is filtered. But is this safe? One of the main concerns for water purifiers is that bacteria will build up at the nozzle after some time. Sterra Water Purifier is designed such that the nozzle can be kept inside the device when not in use. There is also a UV Sterilization mechanism at the nozzle to keep it clean all the time.

With this, it makes maintenance so easy as there is no need for you to maintain it in any way except to change the filters, which is very easy to do. It uses Electrolytic Sterilization to self-clean the inner water pipes.

The Sterra Water Purifier is easy to use and to change the two canisters contained within. This is how it works:
• Pre Carbon Block Sediment Filter that filters out suspended solids such as dust, rust and sand. It also removes organic compounds, such as chlorine and lead.
• UF and Post Carbon Block Filter helps filter out harmful contaminants and pathogenic bacteria.

There is no need to worry about having a water dispenser that might look out of place in your home, as the design is sleek and streamlined. The measurements are height 483mm; length 509mm and breadth 182mm and weighs 9.2kg. Power consumption is low as Sterra Water Purifier will go into standby mode when not in use. The power needed for the hot water is actually less than the power used to boil water with a kettle. Furthermore, the power required for using the chilled water is equivalent to when you are using a ceiling fan.

Get Sterra Water Purifier delivered right to your doorstep for free and it will be installed immediately with no additional cost.
