Harry Winston pays tribute to New York with Fifth Avenue collection
SINGAPORE (Nov 11): New York has been the inspiration for Harry Winston since he started his jewellery business in 1932 with the opening of his eponymous store at Fifth Avenue.
Winston’s parents had immigrated to the US from Ukraine, and as a boy, he worked in his father’s jewellery shop. Eventually, he developed a talent for creating fine jewellery. To start his own collection, Winston observed the neighbourhood, landmarks and glamour of the Big Apple for ideas. Today, the maison pays tribute to the city with the Fifth Avenue collection, which is an extension of the New York Collection by Harry Winston.
(Main picture, right): The Fifth Avenue Sapphire and Diamond Draperie suite mimics the aerial view of Rockefeller Center and its large pavilion, known as the Plaza. The breathtaking sapphire beads, a nod to the bold colour and geometric style of the time, delicately flank the neck and converge in a Y-shaped design.
(Main picture, left): The Pearl and Diamond Draperie Suite celebrates the dynamic intersections along Fifth Avenue and the art deco architectural elements found throughout.
The collection’s Ruby and Diamond necklace and earrings evoke the geometric silhouette of the incredible Millionaire Row homes and demonstrate the fluidity of Winston’s incredible gem-setting expertise.
FASHION AND FRAGRANCE
Atelier Versace, together with EuroItalia, has created the Atelier Versace Fragrances. They comprise six scents that celebrate what the world has to offer. Cédrat de Diamante uses the zest of Italian lemons and grapefruit along with natural woods. Éclat de Rose uses Moroccan rose centifolia as its main ingredient while Jasmin au Soleil uses jasmine flowers from India. Figue Blanche has fresh figs and Italian mandarin as its core ingredients. Santal Boisé gives off a distinct milky and balsamic scent from Sri Lankan sandalwood while Vanille Rouge features Madagascar vanilla with pralines to give off sweet and savoury notes.

SAVE THE ELEPHANTS
Knot On My Planet is a campaign to raise awareness of elephant poaching and the ivory crisis among the masses. In support of the Elephant Crisis Fund, fashion house Loewe has collaborated with Knot On My Planet on a project in which the Samburu women of Northern Kenya will produce its hand-beaded Elephant Mini Bag. This will help fund ongoing efforts to preserve this traditional beading heritage. Loewe, in partnership with Canadian retailer Holt Renfrew, will donate 100% of sales proceeds to the Elephant Crisis Fund.
PLAY ON COLOURS
Earlier this year, Glashütte Original launched the PanoMaticLunar timepiece with a dark blue dial framed by a stunning red-gold case.
