G-Shock launches the Origins GM-5600 timepiece with a skate battle at Zouk
SINGAPORE (Oct 18): Dance club Zouk was converted into a skate park on Oct 3 for the launch of G-Shock’s Origins GM-5600 watch. The space was a throwback to the 1980s and 1990s, with neon lights, antique TVs and old school arcade games. Arcade machines doubled as watch showcases.
To amp up the excitement, 10 finalists demonstrated their dexterity and skill in a skate battle showdown. Professional skateboarders from Japan, Shintaro Hongo and Kaito Sagawa (pictured), were the guest judges. Known for their clean styles and creative tricks, the two young skateboarders delivered some heart-stopping action.
Yvonne Perpetua Ng, Casio senior regional marketing manager, says, “We are grateful that we’ve pulled off yet another successful event following the Game Changer campaign that was the talk of the town in August. This event is testament to G-Shock’s ongoing efforts to appeal to millennials and be visible in the street culture scene here. This is just the start of many upcoming radical events from G-Shock.”
More than 200 guests, comprising members of the media, Gen Z opinion leaders and the local skate community, attended the event.
DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
Maison Chaumet continues its tradition of honouring Empress Joséphine with the Joséphine and Liens high jewellery collections. The Joséphine Aigrette Impériale collection celebrates the diamond with, among other things, a tiara with a diamond pavé and pink sapphire design, crafted using the trompe l’oeil (three-dimensional) technique that is characteristic of the Maison.
REPAIRING DRY SKIN
How we hate dry skin — the itch is unbearable and it becomes more uncomfortable when the skin cracks. To get you through this, Bio-Oil has launched Dry Skin Gel, which is a gelto-oil formula to combat dry skin. The formula consists of 3% water, in contrast to most creams and lotions that contain at least 70% water. Less water means this gel-oil hybrid spreads easily upon application to instantly quench even the driest of skin. Studies claim that users will see a significant improvement in moisture levels after two days.
NEW SPEZIALIST COLLECTION
Glashütte Original presents its fifth collection — the “Spezialist”. The premiere model in this new collection, the diver’s watch SeaQ, unites history and modernity. The timepiece is available in two styles: the SeaQ, in both limited and unlimited versions; and the SeaQ Panorama Date with a black or blue dial and a sunray finish. In the SeaQ Panorama Date, the characteristic big date, a typical feature of Glashütte Original, is positioned at four o’clock while the dial presents the hands, applied Arabic numerals and indices. With this timepiece, Glashütte watchmakers have successfully adapted the award-winning Calibre 36 to meet the challenges of timekeeping underwater, beating within a 43.2mm stainless steel case and configured with regard to the four principles of precision, stability, running time and aesthetics.
SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY
One of Omega’s most iconic timepieces, the Speedmaster, has been a part of all six US moon landings. This year, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, Omega presents a limited-edition model of 6,969 pieces. The watch features a 42mm case in stainless steel with a polished 18-carat Moonshine Gold bezel. The bezel ring features polished black ceramic (ZrO2) with an Omega Ceragold tachymeter scale. Set against a varnished grey and black dial, the indices and hands are in 18-carat Moonshine Gold, except for the central chronograph seconds hand, which is PVD coated in Moonshine Gold. A unique hour marker is positioned at 11 o’clock and there is a distinctive nine o’clock subdial in 18-carat Moonshine Gold with a laserengraved image of Buzz Aldrin climbing down onto the lunar surface. On its Naiad Lock caseback, a laser-engraved astronaut’s footprint is positioned on a medallion under the sapphire crystal while the 18-carat Moonshine Goldplated lettering says: “That’s one small step for a man” and “one giant leap for mankind”.
