We accept and complete Mercedes-Benz Singapore's "Mission: Electric" in its electrifying fleet of EQ EVs

Bistro by GardenAsia, Singapore - You might recall our teaser feature about Mercedes-Benz Singapore's "Mission: Electric" from a few weeks ago.

Well, we finally got the chance to go through a proper preview of the brand's electric experience with its fleet of all-electric EQ models.

The Mission – and we did choose to accept it  – started-off at the Mercedes-Benz Center, where we received a quick technical presentation of the EQ cars we would be driving.

Don't forget, "Mission: Electric" is meant to take its participants on an immersive, cross-island sustainable culinary adventure, as opposed to a hard-sell event with sales chaperones in constant attendance.

Mission: Electric is meant to be part education, part entertainment and all parts fun, with the participants expected to treat it as an engaging day out to spots in Singapore they might not otherwise visit.

Broadly speaking, the fleet of 12 cars is divvied-up into three broad categories for the ~50km round-trip – AMG, Luxury and Eco – with a roster of cars that included the EQB 250+, EQS SUV, EQS 450+, EQE 300, EQE 300 SUV, EQE 43, EQE 53 and EQE 53 SUV.

Each driver would rotate through one model from each of the three categories, but model selection was to be randomised.

However, winning some of the challenges throughout the session would give you first pick of your preferred model.

It isn't a road-race-rally where you're in a competition from point-to-point, but more a leisurely escapade that takes you to local locales less travelled.

The participants are encouraged to explore and soak-in the vibes of the EQ electric cars, because it was as much about the journey with Mercedes-Benz in the EQ models as it was about the destinations.

Mercedes-Benz Singapore also devised a series of "challenges" and quizzes with every model you swopped into, which were meant to involve any friends / family you've brought along for the half-day's jaunt.

The quizzes and games are designed to engage your mind to make you think about the features and qualities of EQ models in a fun way.

More importantly, this soft-sell is better suited to slip factoids into your subconscious, especially without the pressure of having a sales or product person breathing down your neck.

The first stop would take us from the Mercedes-Benz Center to Mr. Bucket Chocolaterie in Dempsey Hill, but via the long, winding and scenic route through Pasir Panjang.

Mr. Bucket prides itself on using sustainably-sourced cacao beans from Asia, which are then further refined into various products with unexpectedly delectable flavour pairings.

Still buzzing from a sugar high, it was then time for the long drive on the highway to the winding roads of the Neo Tiew / Lim Chu Kang "countryside" of Singapore for the lunch-stop (or mid-afternoon tea, depending on your session).

It's at the rustic al fresco "Bistro by GardenAsia", which prides itself on locally-sourced, farm-to-table meals.

After the refuel, the group returns to the Mercedes-Benz Center end-point to complete the mission.

Some critics have asked, "What's the point?", but as far as we're concerned, it's always refreshing to see a car brand attempt something different to engage the public aside from the familiar tactics, especially in such a rapidly-evolving landscape.

The best way to learn about the EQ models – or anything else for that matter – is to experience them in a relaxed fashion, especially with one's friends or family in tow – as would be the case IRL.

At the completion of the "Mission: Electric", you might buy a car, or you might not... but that's beside the point, because at least you would have experienced it.

In any case, you will ultimately come away with a better understanding of what makes an EQ model a Mercedes-Benz and that's Mission Accomplished...
