Where to go for the best mooncakes to celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival
The Peninsula
Reach for the moon with The Peninsula’s signature Mini Egg Custard Mooncakes with a buttery casing and dense, rich filling (main photo). The Peninsula has been creating its Mid-Autumn traditions for more than three decades since 1986, tantalising our palates with its pastries. No wonder their mooncakes have become some of Singapore’s most sought-after delights.
This year, The Peninsula is adding three new mooncake flavours to its lineup: Egg Custard with Peninsula Blend Tea Mooncake, Sesame and Mung Bean Paste Mooncake, and Salty Lemon with White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake. These new mooncakes are the brainchild of The Peninsula’s Michelin-starred culinary advisor Chef Tang Chi Keung.
Starting from $48, gift boxes of four and eight mooncakes are available, with the option of teas too. You can buy the entire mooncake collection from now till Sept 10 at Takashimaya and VivoCity.

Ju Signatures
If flaky Teochew mooncakes are your thing, look no further than the crowd-pleasers from Ju Signature’s executive chef Wong Kok Shyong, who is also known for his handcrafted dim sum creations. This year’s range of Flaky Teochew Orh Nee mooncakes is a signature of chef Wong, who has been making these yummy delicacies for 13 years.
Every mooncake is lovingly handcrafted using specially handpicked premium ingredients, with healthier considerations like reduced sugar, less peanut oil, only natural colouring and no added preservatives. Painstakingly shaped and moulded by hand, the spiral layers intricately held by the extra thin, crisp crust is ingeniously tinged with natural colours derived from matcha, pumpkin and purple sweet potato.
The earthy Orh Nee paste, laboriously handmade in-house and slow-cooked for four to five hours, is velvety smooth and creamy with a well-calibrated sweetness that fuses perfectly with the flaky Teochew pastry crust. Those with a more adventurous palate can sink their teeth into Flaky Matcha Mochi Lava Orh Nee mooncakes for an avalanche of flavours and textures.
