A select group of guests were introduced to the complexities of whisky at an exclusive tasting event hosted by Options.
SINGAPORE (March 11): To celebrate International Women’s Day, Options hosted a Real Whisky, Real Women, Real Spirit event on Feb 22 for 30 women. Its aim was to empower them with knowledge of a drink that has long been associated with men.
At 4.30pm, the guests started arriving at The Lighthouse at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, a rooftop bar with an amazing view of the Singapore skyline. They were welcomed with a Singapore Sling mocktail, perfect for the scorching hot evening. No alcoholic drinks were served before the whisky tasting session.
Giovanni Viterale, general manager of The Fullerton Hotel, gave a welcome speech. This was followed by an interesting talk on ageing by Dr Chia Hui Ling of SW1 Clinic, one of the evening’s sponsors.
Then, Kaiser Loh, brand manager of wines and spirits at Moët Hennessy Diageo, walked the guests through the various whiskies from Glenmorangie. In total, the women tasted and compared five dram selections: Bacalta, The Astar, Spios, 1990 and Signet.
During the session, they observed the colour of their drink, nosed, sipped and repeated this process. They sharpened their palate, had a lot of fun with new-found friends and left with a better understanding of whisky.
Real Whisky, Real Women, Real Spirit was the perfect platform for the ladies to get together, network and learn something new in a convivial setting. Will we make it an annual affair? We certainly hope to.
