For creatives, inspiration knows no bounds. For local jewellery designer Simone Ng, the trifecta of travel, culture, and literature fuels her creativity.

From distant lands to beloved stories, Ng harnesses their essence to craft her pieces. Drawing inspiration from the enduring poetry of Shakespeare, Shelley, and Keats to the enchanting tales of the Arabian Nights, from a record-breaking Qing dynasty porcelain vase at Sotheby’s to the grandeur of Istanbul’s Dolmabahçe Palace, Ng’s stunning array of jewellery pieces evoke the narrative of her adventures.

The latest high jewellery collection from Simone Jewels, named DOLMABAHCE, was inspired by Ng’s visit to the grand Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, Turkey. Commissioned by Sultan Abdülmecid I (1823–1861), this palace — the largest mono-block palace in Turkey — housed six Ottoman sultans and a Caliph. Its architecture blends Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical elements, subtly infused with traditional Ottoman styles — a departure from previous royal structures in the region.

Key pieces from Simone Jewels’ DOLMABAHCE collection reflect the intricate architectural details of one of Istanbul’s most famous landmarks. Highlights from the collection include a bracelet and necklace inspired by the palace gate overlooking the Bosphorus River, which features intricate mother-of-pearl marquetry, a pair of drop earrings and another bracelet inspired by the grand chandelier in the Ceremonial Hall — also the largest crystal chandelier in the world, comprising 750 lamps and weighing 4.5 tonnes.

Ng’s interpretation of the opulence and grandeur of this historic beacon along the banks of the Bosphorus River is reflected in the DOLMABAHCE collection. These pieces encapsulate the palace’s distinctive blend of traditional and modern elements, transforming them into wearable art pieces.
