Walk for humanity

Maybank Singapore

To help communities affected by the floods in Malaysia and Typhoon Rai in the Philippines, Maybank Singapore is partnering with the Singapore Red Cross to raise $300,000 in a virtual charity walk, now on till March 20. Walk for Humanity invites members of the public to clock steps via the 42Race app, paired to your Strava or Garmin accounts. For every kilometre clocked, Maybank will donate $10. Each completion also comes with an e-certification and an e-badge.

The bank is pledging a total of $150,000 in donations to Singapore Red Cross for its humanitarian efforts and will donate $50,000 more once they reach the 100,000km distance milestone. You may also send your donations directly to Giving.sg. Donations are eligible for tax-deductions in Singapore. For details, visit web.42race.com

Reliving Singapore’s dark past
National Museum of Singapore

Experience life in World War Two era Singapore at Dislocations: Memory and Meaning of the Fall of Singapore, 1942 — a special exhibition commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Fall of Singapore.

Now on at National Museum of Singapore till May 29, Dislocations will bring together different personal accounts and examines how the war continues to leave a lasting impact on our nation’s consciousness through a blend of physical artefacts, video projections, documents and oral histories.

As a digital touchpoint, you can visit the event microsite beforehand and take part in an immersive pre-exhibition game called ‘Sunset in Singapore’, that allows visitors to encounter the war through the lens of various groups of people like allied soldiers, nurses or civilians.

At the museum, visitors can also look forward to an Augmented Reality (AR) experience that will allow them to imagine what some of the artefacts from the Empress of Asia wreckage may have looked like in their original state. For ticketing details, visit www.nationalmuseum.sg

NOX

For more lifestyle, arts and fashion trends, click here for Options Section

One of Singapore’s most unique and longest-running experiential dining restaurants, NOX – Dine in the Dark has relocated to 83 Club Street featuring a two-storey 40-seater space where guests navigate a Modern European tasting menu — in the dark — while being guid- ed by visually-impaired hosts.

Relocated from Beach Road — where the restaurant first began operating in 2014 with the mission of supporting the visually impaired community — NOX’s new design is sleek and inviting with burnished copper furnishings and warm-toned interiors, while the walls are adorned with changing RGB (Red, Green and Blue) art and a Braille-inspired wall installation.

The spacious first floor houses a bar and doubles as a waiting room, where plush velvet seats invite patrons to lounge awhile, nibble on an amuse-bouche and sip on a signature cocktail created by Sam Wong of Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall.

Ascend to the main dining area on the second floor and diners are plunged into inky darkness where they savour a seasonal degustation menu — a three-course 12-dish Modern European affair involving a variety of textures, aromas and flavours. Paired with mystery cocktails and wine flights, a night at NOX is an unforgettable feast to be savoured with the senses. Tasting menus are priced from $88++. Wine flights begin from $30++ and cocktail flights from $50++. To book a table, call +65 6298 0708 or visit noxdineinthedark.com/reservations.

DRINK
Chocolate Beer

Specific Gravity Beverage Co X Lemuel

Singapore craft beer specialist Specific Gravity Beverage Co (SGBC) has teamed up with local bean-to-bar chocolatier Lemuel Chocolate to create a tasty chocolate beer called Bow & Arrow Chocolate Ale. Brewed at a small facility in Singapore with cacao beans from Ecuador roasted and processed at Lemuel, Bow & Arrow is an amber-hued ale with a mildly-roasted malty flavour and subtle nuances of chocolate which is surprisingly easy drinking. The label sports SGBC’s signature Peranakan tile motif, which incidentally won a gold medal for packaging at the Australian International Beer Awards. The outfit is also the recipient of several other accolades, including a gold medal in the English-style IPA category at the Asia Beer Championships in Singapore and a bronze in the same category at Melbourne’s Australia International Beer Awards.

Get a four-pack at $32 from www.sgbevco.com; or gift set at $55.55 which includes a four-pack plus two Specific Gravity’s 330ml glasses, a keychain bottle opener, coasters and two bars of delicious single-origin chocolate.
