Witness a sleeping giant

KAWS:HOLIDAY

Internationally-celebrated artist, KAWS (aka Brian Donnelly) takes his larger-than-life signature character, Companion, on a KAWS:HOLIDAY to Singapore and will be on display at The Float @ Marina Bay from Nov 13–21. This gigantic exhibit measures 42m long and will be placed in a reclined position for all to enjoy. The higher up you are, the better the view.

Working with long-time collaborator AllRightsReserved and supported by Singapore Tourism Board, KAWS:HOLIDAY has toured Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, Outer Space, and the United Kingdom since 2018, making Singapore it’s seventh stop. This major exhibit will mark the last monumental event for The Float@ Marina Bay, which will tear down soon and roll out redevelopment plans next March.

Gallery Children’s Biennale is here
National Gallery Singapore

Now open, Gallery Children’s Biennale at National Gallery Singapore presents a hybrid phygital event that combines physical exhibits with an online component, featuring nine installations based on the theme “Why Art Matters”.

The exhibits presented by nine renowned artists and art groups from around the region, will explore themes of Home, Diversity, Environment and Time, bringing to the fore relevant issues of today in an easy-to-understand manner. Children can look forward to multi-sensory experiences as they explore the immersive artworks and maker spaces, play arcade machines, and attend storytelling sessions and workshops.

For a complete hybrid festival experience, visitors are encouraged to participate in both realms – online and on-site — so that children can participate and co-create on both spectrums.

Entry to Gallery Children’s Biennale at National Gallery Singapore is free and the online experience will continue to be accessible at childrensbiennale.com until December 2022.

Send care to caregivers

ClassPass X St. Gregory

If you’re a ClassPass member with extra credits to spare, how about gifting a foot rub to a caregiver who truly needs it? Industry stalwart in the spa and wellness space, St. Gregory at Parkroyal on Beach Road is working with Class- Pass to allow ClassPass members to gift a 30-minute wellness session to caregivers of individuals with disabilities.

This campaign called Send Care to Our Caregivers, launched as a prelude to SG Cares Giving Week (Dec 1-7), brings more awareness to the invisible work of caregivers around us. The wellness session will be extended to caregivers of persons with disabilities who attend therapy sessions at Extra•Ordinary People, a registered Institute of Public Character (IPC) that supports children and individuals with special needs.

Absurdities

If it’s an out-of-this-world dining experience you seek, book a table (or shall we say, tables) at thematic restaurant Absurdities, where theatre and cuisine fuse into one very mind-bending dining concept.

Located at a secret address only released to you closer to your dinner date, Absurdities takes diners on a literal gastronomic journey — starting with an infinity mirror tunnel — as they physically travel through six unique rooms over the course of their meal curated by head chef Jason Ang.

Each room is intricately designed to enhance and highlight the respective course served, where every little detail from the tableware to the menu is carefully tailored to create an immersive experience that brings out the sheer absurdity of the senso- rial dining experience.

Every hidden door you walk through will transport you to locales as far-flung as a mystical jungle, a suburban American kitchen from the ‘50s, a Moroccan tent in the middle of the desert, and even the cabin of a luxurious private jet. And yes, your service crew will be suitably dressed for the occasion.

Absurdities is the brainchild of theatre junkies and founders of Andsoforth, Stuart Wee and Emily Png, known for creating immersive dining experiences such as the critically-acclaimed Valhalla and the Chambers of Asgard (2019) and the Around The World In 80 Days Book Analysis Workshop (2020).

Absurdities is open Thursdays to Saturdays, 6.30pm–10.30pm. Entry is strictly via pre-booking at $348 for two via www.absurdities.com.sg

Celebrating 10 years of tipples

28 HongKong Street

A pioneer and stalwart of the Singapore cocktail scene, 28 HongKong Street turns 10, and will be celebrating it with a ‘Greatest Hits’ menu featuring five of the venue’s most loved libations from now till Nov 30.

Featured cocktails include the Whore’s Bath (circa. 2011, $25) made with Manuka honey vodka, umeshu, pear, lemon, pickled ginger and lava salt, Paper Tiger (circa. 2016, $25) made with Alipus Mezcal, Ancho Reyes, East India Sherry, and Gran Classico Bitter, Literate Lass (circa. 2008, $25) made with Michter’s Rye Whiskey, port, amaro and dandelion bitters, and Hittin’ Switches (circa. 2017, $25) made with Plantation Original Dark Rum, Italian bitter, passionfruit, coffee, lime, spiced cacao bitters, and overproof rum.

To top it off, 28 HongKong Street will also be partnering with some of Singapore’s and the world’s best bars, including Sago House, No Sleep Club, Barbary Coast, Maybe Sammy (Sydney), Sidecar (New Delhi), Two Schmucks (Barcelona) and Attaboy (NYC) that will be featuring 28’s bestsellers on their menus.

To further commemorate a decade of fine drinking, 28 HongKong Street has commissioned leading local agency The Hummingbird Co. to create a mini documentary film which can be viewed on the bar’s social channels.
